Trumpism prizes grievances, attack, lies, and fear to attain political power. It has been, in one form or another, a part of American politics for a long time but has been fully embraced and advanced by the current President, fueling its growth among a huge number of Americans. Trumpism can be seen in a particular way of living and speaking that is antithetical to the gospel.
With Trumpism we see a pattern of intentional division and the gleeful, daily degrading of others who are made in God’s image. This emanates from the top, but it has infected many of Trump’s followers and supporters, including influential Christian leaders. We cannot allow this to be explained and excused away, no matter the messenger. So few Christians in leadership have been willing to publicly declare this about the President, though they are quick to point it out among others, particularly those who disagree with their policy positions.
